Philippines is one of the most welcoming places for expats

A major survey commissioned by one of the largest international banks in the world concludes that the Philippines is one of the most welcoming countries for expats and retirees.

The survey by the HSBC Bank indicates that over half of all expats and their families say they have a better life in the Philippines than they would in their country of origin.

50 of expats questioned said their children took just six months to settle into their new home and only 25% took a year to settle as expats in the Philippines said they quickly felt part of the community

HSBC Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management,  Kris Werner said: “In the Philippines, almost half of expat parents (45 percent) say that they felt like home almost instantly or in less than six months. This is not surprising given the deeply innate hospitality of the Filipinos’.

“The Filipinos are such a happy, family-oriented culture, and more and more expats agree that working in the Philippines allows them to benefit from the booming economy, but also offers a good place to raise a family,” he said.

The survey goes on to say that 57 percent of expat families found the cost of living in The Philippines considerably less expensive than their home countries.

The survey also highlights the Philippines as scoring high for friendship and culture with two-thirds saying making friends is easy.

56% of expats responded that Filipinos are welcoming regardless of expat faith, gender, race or sexual orientation and that the local environment that is generally reported to be affectionate, indulgent, and supportive.
